BAUMKUCHEN (TREE CAKE)
A great treat for any occasion. Great with tea or sherry!
This is a very special treat – known as the "cake of kings" as well
as the "king of cakes" –
baumkuchen history goes back more than 500 years when chefs for European royalty
perfected the
time-honored technique of baking thin layers of cake batter on rotating irons, one
thin layer at a time.
When sliced, the cake reveals many thin layers resembling the age-rings of a tree.
The "bark" coating is a layer of Belgian semi-sweet chocolate. The cake
measures approximately
7 1/2 inches high x 5 inches in diameter. Available from early November through mid
January.
Each baumkuchen is elegantly packaged in a matte gold-colored box and carefully wrapped
to avoid damage in shipping. Baked according to traditional methods by a German bakery
now relocated in Canada.
